Subjects Taught
6th social studies, 7th social studies

I received my associate's degree from Hazard Community College, my bachelor's degree from Alice Lloyd College, and my Master's and Rank I in guidance and counseling from Morehead State University.

In 2006, I completed National Board Certification in Social Studies-History/Early Adolescence. This organization strives to improve the teaching profession and positively impact student learning by certifying accomplished educators. From 2004-2006 I participated in a three year fellowship program. I did professional development during this time over various historical studies. The professional development included twelve days at Buckhorn over the three year period as well as full weeks in Boston, Albuquerque, and Pine Mountain Settlement School. Along with students, I wrote and published the "Downtown Hazard Walking Tour" brochure which won a Kentucky Historical Society award in 2006. It is still in publication and available at the Hazard Chamber of Commerce.

In July of 2012 I will travel to Santa Fe, New Mexico for a week long professional development in history, specifically over Manifest Destiny, our country's desire to expand from the east to west coast in the 1800s-1900s. I constantly look for educational learning opportunites to expand my ability to teach Perry County students.

I taught 5th grade for my first six years of teaching. I taught all subjects in a "self-contained" classroom setting. Then I was counselor at various Perry County elementary schools, including Leatherwood, Viper, A. B. Combs, Lost Creek, and Robinson. I have taught at A.B. for ten years, teaching 8th grade social studies for the first five and then a combination of 6-8 social studies. For the last two years I have taught two 6th grade geography classes and three 7th grade world history classes. After 21 years in the field of education, I still love my  job and the kids that come with it!

My husband is Faron Gambill, who is employed as a coal loader operator. I have two children, Greg and Erin. Greg is a social studies teacher at Paintsville Independent High School and has a daughter named Farah and a second child due in December. Erin is student at A.B. Combs. She participates in numerous activities, including cheerleading, basketball, soccer, softball, and the speech team.

My hobbies include scrapbooking, swimming, art, and reading. I enjoy working outside in the summer. In summer 2012, Christina Haley, Erin, and I painted the murals in the A.B.Combs gym. Go Bearcats!
